04

Do not wear
Contact lenses

If you wear contact lenses, please remove them at least 24 hours before the exam to ensure accurate results.

1. Preparations for an examination or treatment

Yes, we recommend you:

•Please bring your current glasses or contact lenses as well as previous findings.

•Do not wear make-up on the day of the examination, especially during procedures close to the eyes.

•If you are taking medication, bring a list of these with you and inform us of any known allergies.

For most examinations, you are allowed to eat and drink normally. For certain procedures, such as surgical operations, you will receive special instructions in advance.

If your pupils are dilated, you are not allowed to drive for 2-3 hours afterwards. After a minor procedure, we recommend that you bring an accompanying person, as you may be temporarily restricted.

It is recommended to remove contact lenses at least 24 hours before an exam that affects the corneal shape or the surface of the eye, as these can distort the results.

Contact lenses:

The absence of contact lenses before special examinations can vary. We will advise and inform you individually on this.

Yes, many examinations and treatments are also safe during pregnancy. Please inform us so that we can take this into account.

2. Procedure of examinations and treatments

A routine ophthalmological examination usually takes 20-40 minutes. For special treatments, such as injections or surgery, the duration may vary.

Most eye exams are painless. For treatments that require anesthesia, the area is anesthetized locally beforehand to minimize discomfort.

During an initial visit, we perform a thorough medical history, visual acuity measurement, eye pressure measurement and retinal examination to assess the overall condition of your eyes.

After pupil dilation or an examination with drops, your vision may be temporarily impaired. We recommend avoiding driving in such cases.

Yes, children receive specially adapted tests and child-friendly care to check their eyesight in a playful and stress-free way.

Yes, you can easily change or cancel your appointment up to 24 hours in advance. Contact us by phone or e-mail and we will find a new date for you together.

4. General information about operations

We perform a variety of procedures, including cataract surgery, eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty), ectropion/entropion treatments (misalignments of the eyelid), and intravitreal medication. Each procedure is individually adapted to your needs.

The duration depends on the type of procedure. Routine surgeries such as cataract surgery take about 20-30 minutes, while more complex procedures can take more time.

Most eye surgeries are performed under local anesthesia. General anesthesia is only necessary for certain procedures or special patient needs.

As with any medical procedure, there are risks such as infection, bleeding, or delayed healing. However, thanks to state-of-the-art technologies and our experience, we keep these risks as low as possible.

Avoid nicotine and alcohol before surgery, come without makeup or skincare products, and wear comfortable clothes. Detailed instructions will be provided when making an appointment.

5. Aftercare and recovery after treatments

The recovery time varies depending on the procedure. After cataract surgery, you can resume light activities after just a few days, while complete healing takes a few weeks.

Avoid heavy physical exertion, do not rub your eyes and use the prescribed eye drops regularly. Protect your eyes from strong light and dust.

The first follow-up check usually takes place one to two days after the operation. Further check-up appointments will be determined individually, depending on your healing.

Mild discomfort is normal. In case of severe pain, redness or sudden deterioration of vision, please contact us immediately. We are here for you.

The return to everyday activities depends on the operation. Sports, driving or intensive screen work should only be resumed after consulting your doctor.

Eye care tips for your everyday life

1. Take a break when working at a computer screen

Do you work in front of a screen for a long time? Use the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away (about 6 meters) for 20 seconds. This helps to avoid digital eye strain.

Always wear sunglasses with UV protection to protect your eyes from harmful radiation – even in winter.

Eat foods rich in vitamins A, C, E, and omega-3 fatty acids, such as carrots, spinach, salmon, or nuts. These nutrients promote eye health.

Smoking increases the risk of macular degeneration and other eye diseases. Stopping smoking not only improves your overall health, but also that of your eyes.

Even without symptoms, you should have your eyes examined at least once a year. Early diagnosis can prevent serious illnesses.
