1. Preparations for an examination or treatment

Yes, we recommend:

•Please bring your current glasses or contact lenses as well as previous findings.

•Please refrain from wearing makeup on the day of the examination, especially for eye-related procedures.

•If you are taking medication, please bring a list of these and inform us about known allergies.

For most examinations, you may eat and drink normally. For certain procedures, such as surgical operations, you will receive specific instructions in advance.

If your pupils are dilated, you may not drive for 2-3 hours afterwards. After a minor procedure, we recommend bringing an accompanying person, as you may be temporarily impaired.

It is recommended to remove contact lenses at least 24 hours before an examination that affects the corneal shape or the eye surface, as they can distort the results.

Contact lenses:

The recommendation to refrain from contact lenses before specific examinations may vary. We will advise and inform you individually on this matter.

Yes, many examinations and treatments are safe during pregnancy. Please inform us so that we can take this into account accordingly.

2. Procedure of examinations and treatments

An ophthalmological routine examination usually takes 20–40 minutes. The duration may vary for specific treatments, such as injections or surgical procedures.

Most eye examinations are painless. For treatments that require anesthesia, the area will be locally anesthetized beforehand to minimize discomfort.

During a first visit, we conduct a thorough medical history, visual acuity measurement, intraocular pressure measurement, and retinal examination to assess the overall condition of your eyes.

After pupil dilation or an examination with drops, your vision may be temporarily impaired. We recommend avoiding driving in such cases.

Yes, children receive specially adapted tests and child-friendly care to check their vision in a playful and stress-free manner.

Yes, you can easily change or cancel your appointment up to 24 hours in advance. Contact us by phone or email, and we will find a new appointment for you together.

4. General information about surgeries

We perform a variety of procedures, including cataract surgeries, eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty), treatments for ectropion/entropion (misalignments of the eyelid), as well as intravitreal drug injections. Each procedure is individually tailored to your needs.

The duration depends on the type of procedure. Routine surgeries like cataract surgery take about 20-30 minutes, while more complex procedures may take longer.

Most eye surgeries are performed under local anesthesia. General anesthesia is only required for certain procedures or specific patient needs.

As with any medical procedure, there are risks such as infections, bleeding, or delayed healing. However, thanks to state-of-the-art technologies and our experience, we keep these risks as low as possible.

Avoid nicotine and alcohol before the surgery, come without makeup or skincare products, and wear comfortable clothing. Detailed instructions will be provided when you schedule your appointment.

5. Aftercare and recovery after treatments

The recovery time varies depending on the procedure. After cataract surgery, you can resume light activities after just a few days, while complete healing takes several weeks.

Avoid heavy physical exertion, do not rub your eyes, and use the prescribed eye drops regularly. Protect your eyes from bright light and dust.

The first follow-up appointment usually takes place one to two days after the surgery. Further check-up appointments will be scheduled individually, depending on your healing.

Mild discomfort is normal. If you experience severe pain, redness, or sudden vision deterioration, please contact us immediately. We are here for you.

The return to everyday activities depends on the surgery. Sports, driving, or intensive screen work should only be resumed after consulting your doctor.

Eye care tips for your daily life

1. Take breaks from screen work

Do you work long hours in front of a screen? Use the 20-20-20 rule: Look at something 20 feet away (about 6 meters) for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. This helps avoid digital eye strain.

Always wear sunglasses with UV protection to shield your eyes from harmful radiation – even in winter.

Eat foods rich in vitamins A, C, E, and omega-3 fatty acids, such as carrots, spinach, salmon, or nuts. These nutrients promote eye health.

Smoking increases the risk of macular degeneration and other eye diseases. Quitting smoking improves not only your overall health but also that of your eyes.

Even without complaints, you should have your eyes examined at least once a year. Early diagnoses can prevent serious conditions.
